There are ways to make food less spicy

How to Make Food Less Spicy

Have you ever been served a dish that looks and smells delicious, but when you taste it, it’s too spicy to enjoy? We’ll explore five ways to fix a too-spicy dish and turn it into a delicious meal that’s easy to eat and enjoy.

We’ll also discuss the fact that many countries are not known for spicy food, and reducing the heat of Sriracha sauce may seem like second nature to residents of these countries. We have related blogs, “What Makes Hot Sauces Different from Each Other?” and “Is Hot Sauce Beneficial to Your Health“, that explore the subjects in greater depth.

World Famous Sriracha Sauce

Sriracha sauce has become one of the world’s favourite condiments, and Flying Goose Brand offers over thirty varieties of Sriracha sauce with different heat and spiciness levels. Some of the meals that have become favourites to enjoy with Sriracha Sauce include:

  • Vietnamese Banh mi sandwiches
  • Hamburgers
  • Hot Dogs
  • Western chili
  • Pizza
  • Stews

You can find recipes that use Sriracha and explore your curiosity of spice and if things start to heat up a bit too much – we’ve got you covered! Read our spicy food hacks on how to tone down the flames while still enjoying the burst of spicy flavour.

Adding Ingredients Can Tone Down the Chilli

A meal that may be too spicy, can still be enjoyed by adding more ingredients to tone down the level of spiciness – while still retaining its flavour profile. Using six types of specific ingredients will help dampen the effects of capsaicin and can cool down your mouth.

1. Sweeteners Can Tame the Spiciness

Sugar or other sweeteners can add a different element to a dish that can alleviate the heat. You only want to add a little sweetness; otherwise, your savoury dish can become too sweet and can’t be made savoury again without the impact of having to add too much salt.

2. Add Dairy or Coconut Milk

While water tends to make the effects of spiceworse, milkhelps reduce the impact of spicy food. The fat in milk, sour cream and coconut milk can be like a blanket thrown over a fire. Many people reach for milk when they’ve taken too big a bite of a raw chilli pepper. Coconut milk is a popular ingredient in Southeast Asian cuisine, as it doesn’t curdle like milk when you cook over high heat with it, and you can use it to manage the heat and spiciness of dishes while cooking them.

3. Try A Range of Nut Butters

Adding nut butters, like peanut, almond, or cashew butter, can quickly reduce the spiciness of a dish without adding much flavour to it. It’s a subtle way of spice-cutting a too-hot and spicy meal. Nut butters, like dairy and coconut milk, are also rich in fats that can tame the heat of chillis and bring out the flavours of a dish instead of the heat.

4. Acids Like Vinegar or Citrus Can Counteract Heat

Thai cuisine navigates the heat of chilli by adding a liberal amount of acid from vinegar, citrus fruits, or even ketchup. Like sweeteners, you need only about a spoonful to reduce a dish’s raw heat.

5. Serve with Neutral Starchy Food

Rice can help reduce the spice in food

One of the easiest ways to counteract the heat of dishes is simply to serve them with rice or potatoes. This dilutes the heat while adding a filling heartiness to a dish.
